AV-Comparatives releases results of Spring 2024 Speed-Impact Test for Consumer Antivirus Products

AV-Comparatives has unveiled its latest findings from the Spring 2024 Performance Test, evaluating the speed impact of 16 leading consumer security solutions. As a prominent independent testing lab in the cybersecurity realm, AV-Comparatives are thrilled to share the comprehensive assessment of these antivirus products’ performance in everyday usage scenarios.

In this year’s Performance Test, conducted during the spring of 2024, the impact of each antivirus solution on system speed was analysed. A clean Windows 10 64-Bit system (English) was used as the baseline, each security software was installed and tested, considering default settings and real-world conditions. The testing environment featured low-end machine configurations; high-end machine conditions are tested in autumn.

The Performance Test encompassed a range of activities including file operations such as copying, archiving, and unarchiving, application installation and launch, file downloads, and web browsing. It’s important to emphasize that since the focus was on system speed, this evaluation does not address the protective capabilities of the security products, which are scrutinized in other testing categories such as Real-World Protection and Malware-Protection Tests.

Among the 16 antivirus products evaluated, nine attained the highest accolade, “ADVANCED+,” showcasing minimal impact on system performance. These distinguished products delivered a seamless and efficient computing experience to users: Avast Free Antivirus, AVG Internet Security, Avira Free Security, Bitdefender Total Security, ESET HOME Security Essential, Kaspersky Standard, McAfee Total Protection, Panda Free Antivirus, and Quick Heal Internet Security.
