AV-Comparatives is pleased to share the July/August 2025 factsheet of our ongoing Consumer Real-World Protection Test. This interim release offers an early look at how leading antivirus solutions performed, with the full set of results to be published in November.
Rigorous Evaluation of Consumer Security
Our Real-World Protection Test is designed to measure how well antivirus software protects users against today’s cybercrime threats. Recognized worldwide, AV-Comparatives certifications provide an independent benchmark that helps consumers understand product effectiveness and reliability.
Real-World Threat Simulation
The test mirrors everyday online behaviour, attempting to download and run live malware from the internet through a fully automated process. This allows us to examine all relevant protection layers of each product and to assess their ability to prevent real-life infections.
Products and Methodology
Nineteen security solutions were tested in the July/August run: Avast Free Antivirus, AVG AntiVirus Free, Avira Free Security, Bitdefender Total Security, ESET HOME Security Essential, F-Secure Internet Security, G DATA Total Security, K7 Total Security, Kaspersky Premium, Malwarebytes Premium, McAfee Total Protection, Microsoft Defender Antivirus, Norton Antivirus Plus, Panda Free Antivirus, Quick Heal Total Security, Total Defense Essential Anti-Virus, TotalAV Antivirus Pro, Trend Micro Internet Security, and VIPRE Advanced Security.
Using more than 200 malicious URLs, the test covered a broad spectrum of current threats. The factsheet also includes results of the false-positive assessment, providing a balanced picture of protection and accuracy.
Continuous Testing and Updates
All evaluations are carried out on fully updated Microsoft Windows 11 Pro 64-bit systems with current third-party applications installed. Protection rates are updated regularly on our website charts, giving consumers access to the latest information at a glance.
