Microsoft was founded in 1975, with headquarters in Redmond, Washington.
Microsoft Security Essentials was introduced in 2009 as standalone malware protection for Windows XP, Vista and 7. It is integrated into Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 as Windows Defender and rebranded as Microsoft Defender Antivirus in 2020.
Microsoft joined AV-Comparatives’ Main Test Series in 2007.
